The history of Trott Rentals as we reach our 50th year.
Trott Rentals, based in the Airport Industrial Estate, is a family run vehicle hire business established in 1967 by Colin Trott, grandfather of the current Director, Chris Trott. There have been many changes over the years to build the business as it is today and this year, we are delighted to be celebrating 50 years in business. Although Trott Rentals has changed dramatically over the years, one part of the business has remained consistent through the years and is arguably the most important factor of the business’ success: the Trott family.
Family are at the heart of our business.
In the late 50’s, Colin Trott, a carpenter by trade, started a building company called C A Trott Builders. Offering general building services and new build construction in and around Norwich, he was the pioneer of the Trott brand, with no way of knowing how the next 50 years would unfold. In 1967 a limited company was formed as it is still known today, C.A.Trott (Plant Hire) Ltd, as the building services had extended into Plant Hire.
40 years ago, Colin’s son, Peter, became involved with his father’s business and in the 1980’s Peter supported the introduction of vehicle hire. In the mid 1990’s the name Trott Rentals was adopted (although the registered business name remains C A Trott (Plant Hire) Ltd).
Over the years, plant hire expanded into commercial vehicle hire and Peter’s 17 year old son, Chris, started working in the business part-time, while he explored his love of motorsport. In 2009, Chris Trott began working full time for Trott Rentals and today remains at the head of day to day operations.
Trott Rentals now offers van hire in Norwich, to both commercial and private customers on a short and long-term basis. With the recent introduction of commercial contract vehicle hire and fleet maintenance services to the growing business, three generations of the Trott family have firmly established their business’ place in the Norwich van hire market.
